Anemone is a beautiful, vine-covered gite situated on the edge of the hamlet of Fontroubade. It is on a quiet lane with little passing traffic and is surrounded by fields and woods. It forms part of an historic residence dating back over 600 years. The property is a peaceful retreat for friends and families, sharing the pool area with our other gite (Chive Cottage) and our owners accommodation.
Just a few seconds away from the front door Anemone has its own private garden area (the Piggery) with barbeque and seating etc. A great place to 'chill' with direct access onto our field.
The interior is on two levels and comprises:
• on the ground floor a spacious open plan living room and well-equipped kitchen which can be either cool and airy in the heat of summer or warm and cosy if the days are cooler;
Stairs leading to
• from landing shower room with WC;
• from landing double bedroom;
• from landing further double bedroom leading to;
• double bedroom with en-suite shower room and WC.
The outdoor in ground pool is 8m x 5m. Pool towels are provided.
Guests have use of communal laundry facilities. The property has Wi-Fi and both French and British satellite television.
The closest village is Javerlhac-et-la-Chapelle-Saint-Robert (6 km) which has beautiful, ancient buildings including a 12th Century church and a 15th century château. Facilities include a boulangerie, a grocery store and a friendly bar which serves reasonably priced meals daily.
The nearest town is Nontron, approximately 12 kilometers away. There are 3 large supermarkets, bars and restaurants and old quarter with ancient buildings and spectacular views. On Saturdays, there is a colourful, busy market, selling local produce including vegetables and wine. Nontron is the capital of the Perigord Vert region of the Dordogne. Like Fontroubade it lies within the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord Limousin - an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Another nearby town is Piégut-Pluviers. Every Wednesday it holds one of the largest markets in the region: there are stalls selling fresh local produce, antiques, craft and household goods. Well worth a visit.
Less than 30 minutes drive away is Brantôme, a lovely old town that is known as the ‘Venice of the Dordogne’. The river Dronne encircles it and you can walk along the river’s edge and hire canoes. The river flows calmly along at the bottom of steep, wooded slopes and through tranquil gardens. The town has a mixture of medieval and renaissance buildings, including an ancient abbey carved into a cliff. Just one of many nearby attractions.
There is so much to see and explore, including caves (Grotte de Villars are amongst the best), places to walk, the swimming lakes at Saint-Estèphe and elsewhere and beautiful towns & villages set in stunning scenery. There are Chateau and other wonderful buildings and gardens to visit and explore. Without even leaving Fontroubade, you are in the midst of the tranquillity, beauty and ambience of the area.
