About Karen Usher
We are a family of four who fell in love with Cornwall and moved to Germoe 14 years ago. Gweal Brogue is a much loved home, we brought our children up here and the whole area is a very special and magical place for us. Due to work commitments we are living outside the county for a few years but will be very happy to return to this wonderful part of Cornwall when circumstances allow. In the meantime we are thrilled to be able to share the house with visitors to this wonderful county. Please feel free to contact Karen if you have any questions about the house.
Karen Usher purchased this Farmhouse in 1993
Why Karen Usher chose Germoe
The house is spacious and welcoming and feels very homely. The views from the back garden are beautiful and we never tire of watching the summer sunsets. We liked the fact that the house is so peaceful, not quite on the tourist trail, however all amenities are within easy reach and the beach is a short walk away.

The perfect cottage
Gweal Brogue cottage was the perfect place to spend the weekend. Wish we could stay longer. Peaceful and beautiful setting. Very helpful host. We had everything we needed and more. Close to Praa Sands beach which was beautiful especially in the sunshine. Favourite place was Porthleven for a morning coffee. Coming back from a day out to the cottage was a pleasure. Sitting in the cosy lounge on a rainy day was equally as pleasurable as sitting on the decking with a glass of wine watching the sunset over the field.
fantastic cottage and we had abrilliant time
great cottage with a lot of extras
Lovely comfortable house with pretty garden. Welcome pack great. A good centre for exploring.
A very pretty cottage and garden in a quiet spot but within easy reach of the spectacular coastal scenery. Super welcome pack. Very comfortable with all home comforts plus woodburner and modern bathrooms. Lovely decorative touches and pictures. We would return again !
Beautiful peaceful spot, comfortable house.
Had a wonderful week in this well equipped and very comfortable house. Enjoyed clifftop walks and across land footpaths from the house, with amazing views. Swimming in the sea, surfing and body boarding at Praa sands beach down the hill with boards from the house, cooking with the children and comfortable evenings of games and films! Would definitely return.
The farmhouse was homely, very comfortable, and everything you could possibly need was there
We had a wonderful holiday in Germoe. For an Oct/Nov holiday we had lovely weather, the sun shone all week be it a bit chilly at times. The farmhouse is situated within easy driving distance of so many different attractions, St Michael’s mount, St Ives, Penzance and many more. A week was not long enough to see all we wanted so we are hoping to go back to Gweal Brogue in the future.
We had the most wonderful time staying in Karen’s farmhouse. It was beautifully furnished and every little detail had been thought about. This is the best equipped holiday home we have ever stayed in. The views of the fields from the dining room was one that we would never get bored with. The bathrooms were lovely and modern and the beds were very comfortable. It was a 15 minute walk down to Praa Sands which we did most evenings where we saw some beautiful sunsets. The surrounding area was also lovely and we had some great days out at Porth Leven, St Michaels Mount, St Ives, Kynance Cove and Lizard Point to name a few. We would definitely love to come and stay again.
There are numerous amazing restaurants and cafes within a few miles of the house. There will be details of all our favourites in the welcome pack.
Praa Sands beach is very safe with Lifeguard cover during peak times. There's a very relaxed bar/restaurant, cafe and ice-cream shop. A well stocked surf shop also hires out surf boards, kayaks, paddle boards, wetsuits etc etc.
A trip to St Michaels Mount, Mousehole, St Ives, Lizard Point, Kynance Cove and The Minack Theatre (book early for one of their open air theatre shows - the setting is second to none!) are just a few of the 'must do's' while you're in West Cornwall.
A coastal walk from Prussia Cove (quintessentially Cornish) to Praa Sands is wonderful and easy going with energetic children (especially with the promise of ice-cream at the end).
Nearby Rinsey (2 miles) is another particular favourite of ours. There's a 30 minute circular walk, taking in the spectacular landscape and former tin mine chimney, Wheal Prosper built in 1849. There's a steep track down to the beach and you can often find yourself the sole visitor. Cornish choughs are often seen at Rinsey.
From the house there are numerous public footpaths. A walk to Tregonning Hill is worth it for the views and also Godolphin Hill where you can see both the North and South Coast.
The whole area is steeped in history with tales of smuggling and shipwrecks.
