This was a lovely cottage and perfect for where we wanted to visit the Somerset levels.
Lovely warm spacious cottage with everything you need ample car parking
Cosy cottage in a beautiful place
Polden cottage is a perfect self catering get away for a short break, its a really cosy welcoming place to stay. Beautifully kept and was spotless when we arrived. A large number of electricals are provided, radio, washing machine, plug on heater if it's chilly, vacuum hair dryer ect (super helpful as i forgot mine). It is attached the the village pub, the duck. The cottage is surprisingly sound proof, especially upstairs so our sleep wasn't bothered on saturday when they uad some live music next door. We could hear it downstairs bit it wasn't loud enough to be bothersome. We ate there two nights of the 4, it is a bit pricier than some but the food was delicious and the staff were lovely. On our second visit they were chatting to us like we were regulars.
The location is very rural, but only a short 30 min trip to cheddar or the coast. And just under an hr to bath and bristol park and rides. There's also a number of short walks to do in tue village and surrounding area which is worth it because it is such a beautiful place!
The cottage owner is really friendly and helpful, not only with dealings directly about tue cottage but also giving us sughestions on what there was to do.
Over all we had a really relaxing, enjoyable weekend away and wished it could have lasted a few more days!
The cottage was very comfortable, but spoilt by the outside space
A recently refurbished, clean and comfortable cottage all as described on the web page. Contained all you needed for you stay even a steel for sharpening your kitchen knives. One of the settees was very uncomfortable. the main problem was the lack of information on the outside space in the description. The cottage is attached to a pub, this did not cause a lot of problems but could be noisy at times. The description states that the patio area is ideal for alfresco dining!!! The area is a 4m x 5m concrete slab with a one meter picket fence around it which is all that separates it from the very large pub car park. The cottage has two windows both of which also look out over the car park so basically all you look at is a car park. The lack of information on the web page seems to be designed to mislead by omission. The lack of external photographs should have been a warning.
I find it personally disappointing that this guest was dissatisfied with their experience as a result of the outside area. As manager of Polden, I agree that the lack of outside space is a weakness of the property in comparison to the high standard of recent refurbishments and the excellent quality which I strive to maintain inside of the cottage. We do hope to have this area refurbished over winter ready for next year’s holiday season. Currently the price of a stay at Polden is largely discounted as a result of the limitations of the outside space, but having stayed at the property myself I have found that the provided table, chairs and swing seat provide a pleasant opportunity to relax outside amongst the peace and quiet of the countryside.
There was no malicious intent to ‘mislead by omission’ within the property description and photographs, the allegation of which I find quite hurtful. As described, the pub is adjacent and the proximity to The Duck is largely considered a significant perk of a stay at Polden Cottage. The county-leading gastropub is well renowned for its excellent food and has won multiple awards. However, I do not want future guests to feel misled, and I thank you for noting that my photographs of the exterior (which appear on other sites) appear to be missing on Home and Away, so I will add these in immediately. I do wish that I had been contacted sooner about the concern as I strive to address any issues immediately so that I can aim to improve a guest’s experience prior to their departure as I hate to think that someone has left and not enjoyed their stay when I could have done something about it or offered some kind of alleviation for an aggrievement.
The property had everything and more that was needed for a short break. A well equipped modern property with enough parking on the pub car park. The place was immaculate and we would have no hesitation in booking again.
It was next to a pub serving great food and it was nice to be able to finish the day by having a drink without needing to drive anywhere.
I would highly recommend this property.
Neighbors from hell
The cottage was fitted out to a high standard very clean and truely a loverly place to stay. The pub next door served great food although limited for choice. A great place to explore what Somerset has to offer. But and there is always a but we had the neighbors from hell very noisy and yapping dog and not a thought for anybody else. We decided to leave early. Is that the owners fault no of course not. Would I stay again yes I would and maybe just maybe.we would have some nice neighbors.
I would like to note that the cottage next door is a holiday let like my own, please trust that the noisy neighbours in question will not be invited back! I am personally disappointed that this couple had a bad experience at Polden Cottage. I have put a huge amount of effort into creating a pleasant space for all guests and work tirelessly to ensure that every stay is memorable for the right reasons. I do wish that you had contacted me during your stay so that I could have tried to rectify the situation. I can only apologise on those guest’s behalf. I would welcome this couple back at any time so that they could hopefully experience the peace of the Polden Cottage that I know and love. Noisy neighbours are a rarity at Polden and this is the first time, and hopefully the last that I will struggle with this issue.
