Beautiful quiet location.
We had a great time and Heaven on a Lake. We enjoyed the area and the kids had a great time fishing on the lake. The cabin had everything we needed .
Our guests treated our home as if it were their own. So glad they had a great visit. You’re welcome back anytime!
Peaceful and Secluded! Very nice!
The cabin was very comfortable and everything was provided. The only thing we had to bring was food. There were 3 boats to use: a row boat, canoe, and kayak, and the fire pit was only feet from the water. There was even a corn hole set. We swam in the lake and caught blue gill. We enjoyed the fires beside the lake, under the stars. There didn't seem to be anyone else on the lake the entire week, so we had it all to ourselves.
To get to the cabin you leave the paved road and drive 1.2 miles on a dirt road that can be challenging. Beau recommended a 4 wheel drive but we rented a minivan that would hold 6 people and our luggage. We powered through the loose sand and didn't have a problem, but I understand the road can be muddy after rains. I would agree with Beau that a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle would be recommended.
The cabin was very peaceful. We didn't hear another car the whole week! The night sky was very dark and we were able to see lots of stars, a wisp of the Milky Way, and even the ISS.
The cabin is centrally located in the UP, but everything is a drive. The grocery store is 45 minutes away in Munising, Manistique is an hour, Marquette is 80-90 minutes. We didn't have cell phone service at the cabin, but it has a land line and Munising is a local call. You are right smack in the middle of national forest and can't get much more privacy and seclusion than this cabin. We loved it and recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from it all for a few days.
A wonderfully remote getaway
We loved our trip to Loon-a-see, although we did not hear to see loons at the house! We did see eagles, osprey, kingfishers and many other birds once we figured out how to keep the mosquitoes at bay. We used the boats to fish, trolled with minnow lures and caught fish and quickly as my boys could reel them in, bluegill, crappie and bass big enough to bend my boys small poles nearly in half.
We had fires down by the water a few nights, but would recommend all manner of mosquito control. We use a few thermacell laterns, a cutter citraguard candle, deet spray and a few other lotions and after a while, figured out how be outside without being attacked to badly. The deck is wonderful and near the house, fairly bug free. The lake was great until after sunset and there was nothing I could do to keep the mosquitoes at bay while on the water under the moon.
We traveled to Escanaba, Munising, Pictured Rocks, waterfalls, Manistique, Seney and a few other places, but the days we spent on the lake at the house and playing board games on a rainy day were great as well.
A wonderful trip and we will return!
