About Steve Mergen/Marc Mergen/Linda Hanson
My name is Steve and I own this property with my brother Marc and sister Linda. We all grew up in Prairie du Chien on the Mississippi River!! We spent most weekends boating as a family and want others to feel at home when you are visiting this amazing town!!
Steve Mergen/Marc Mergen/Linda Hanson purchased this Villa in 1990
Why Steve Mergen/Marc Mergen/Linda Hanson chose Downtown
My parents owned this Villa for many years. Upon their passing it was generously left to us. The building had primarily been used by the local hospital until their expansion this year. We have decided to open this property to anyone who would like to enjoy all that Prairie du Chien has to offer!
What makes this Villa unique
The Sunset Villa can sleep 4-20 people and is an ideal location close to the river and in the heart of Historic Prairie du Chien! Many events, restaurants, shops and local businesses are within walking distance. Summer festivals and fall leaf looking are amazing. In the winter you can take part in the "dropping o' the carp" on New Years Eve and the snowmobile trail is just out your back door. Endless ice fishing opportunities are just one block away. We are sure you will enjoy your stay in Prairie du Chien at the Sunset Villa!

Great location and this house was amazing for our big group!
It was a great experience and will definitely look at renting it again!
Beautiful Prairie du Chien
The accommodations were clean with updated bathrooms. The exterior is quite unkempt. The building itself and the yard. I had hoped for an outside area. Thank goodness we had brought a few lawn chairs. It is very close to the night life. It’s a perfect location for a bachelor party.
Great place for a group
There were 13 of us and we had plenty of space at the house. We were close to many different attractions while we were in the area. Steve was an excellent communicator, answering questions promptly. I would recommend this house for any group. Thank you Steve for making our stay so easy.
Thank you for your great review! We are excited that you enjoyed staying with us and hope to see you again in future!!
Great stay for train fans with lots of room
A very roomy place that was comfortable for all of our crowd. Hard to find a place with as many rooms and beds. The three bathrooms (2 downstairs and 1 up) were a little pressed when we had all 20 guests there but it was certainly manageable. There were a few small maintenance issues that will hopefully be fixed to make the stay even more relaxing and trouble free. We made good use of the kitchen which had most of the utensils and cookware needed for large meals. We used the outdoor lawn quite a bit as the weather for out stay was pleasant. Very convenient to downtown. Very short walk to Starks, Pete's burgers and a variety of nice sit-down restaurants. Plenty of bars in stumbling distance of that is your thing. Prairie is a real treat for train fans with a BNSF mainline through town and a bunch of dead-line equipment on Lucky island to include 15+ old Milwaukee cabooses and an old MOW train with a derrick and support cars. All are accessible to walk right up to.
We are so pleased that your group enjoyed the Villa! My parents loved the town of Prairie and we love that we can share this experience with others! Hope to see you again!!
I'd recommend it
The property was a great fit for our group of 16. Sleeping accommodations were great. The only downside was having such a tiny kitchen to cook/work in, but we made it work. We spent most of our time outside...nice flat yard for games and sitting around. I'd recommend it!
Thank you for your kind comments and we are pleased your family enjoyed the villa! Hope to see you again!!
Prairie Du Chien home
The property was clean and spacious. The beds were very comfortable and there was a tv in every room. The kitchen was well stocked. Air conditioners worked great. We did have to purchase toilet paper and there was a bit of a stinky leak under the kitchen sink. A suggestion would be to have a chair in every bedroom and a suit case stand.
Its hard for older people to have to place their suitcase on the floor. All in all it was very nice and we would certainly stay there again. Thank you!!!
