In the suggestive historical center Amendolara Paese *, just a few minutes by car from Amendolara Marina and the sea, among alleys, white houses and glimpses of blue sky, there is my holiday home that I like to call "Cicale, Zitelle and Almond Milk ". My house is the ideal place for couples or families who want to discover authentic places, live inside traditions and love simple little things.
The house is located at the end of via Domenico Sola, the balcony overlooks the alley "via Chiesa". On the back of the house, however, stands the Castle, where Frederick II came to spend rest periods dedicating himself to hunting with falcon.
A kitchen, a living room, a bedroom, a bathroom and a balcony are all available to my guests. In decorating it I tried to reproduce the style of the houses of the past. There is, for example, the "appicaramə" in the kitchen (where the pots are hung) and the old secretaire that was my grandmother's in the bedroom.
To enter the house, as shown in the photos, there are the external stairs typical of the homes of the historic centers of the area. The entrance door leads into the kitchen where there is a stove (with gas cylinder), a small but capacious refrigerator, a microwave and pots and pans in the lockers.
The living room, colorful and spacious, has two comfortable sofas where you can relax back from the sea or in the evening, perhaps reading one of the books that I put at my guests' disposal on the shelves. The red sofa turns into a comfortable double bed, the yellow one into a single bed.
The bedroom, connected to the living room, is composed of a double bed, an antique wardrobe with drawers, two clothes racks and a chest of drawers where sheets and towels are available for my guests. The room opens onto the balcony where a table and a parasol allow guests to spend pleasant moments of relaxation, have breakfast in the morning, have dinner in the evening, exchange a few talks with the neighbors on the balconies.
The bathroom is accessed from the kitchen. The bathroom like the old houses is small, has a shower, a sink and a washing machine for your laundry, it does not have a bidet. Towels, shampoo, shower gel and hair dryer are at your disposal.
At home you will find some small cuddle. In the kitchen cabinet next to the draining board, there is always coffee, biscuits and almond milk for you.
At the beginning of the old village (in via Pomponio Leto) there is the grocery store of Rocco that has everything you need and a few steps from home, in Piazza Grande, the ice cream shop of Antonio with the flavors of Amendolara (almonds and pistachio ).
When I'm here, I'm available to my guests. For any problem, information there are, but also to have a chat, drink a coffee or take a stroll around the old town with the story of old country stories that never pass here. When I'm not there, there are my aunts, my cousin Ulisse or my friendly neighbors.
The sea, always blue and with its pristine beaches, is only 4 km away, to be covered by car. The road leading to the marina is surrounded by yellow fields and orchards with the sea on the horizon that transmit all the power of Mediterranean nature.
Together with the house keys I give my guests information on itineraries, walks, out-of-town visits, beaches, restaurants ... to experience Amendolara and the extraordinary land on which it stands.
* Like all the countries of the Ionian coast, Amendolara has a Marina, where once only fishermen lived and a country where once they all lived. The historic center of the country was the beating heart of life here, there were shops, shops and artisans. Today many people are rediscovering its charm and are returning to live, especially in summer, its white houses and balconies. My house is a typical home of the historic centers of southern Italy.
