3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom log cabin with 100' of sandy Lake Michigan beach
Why Patrick Monaghan chose Northport
We're Chicagoans who have used Eight Bells as our secret north woods getaway for years. When it was put on the market in 2015, we jumped at the chance to grab it. We are happy to keep sharing this secluded, north woods cabin with others who enjoy the quiet and seclusion that Eight Bells provides. It's our special place, and if peace and quiet are what you seek, we think it will be yours, too. **If you want high speed internet and luxury, Eight Bells isn't for you. If you want rustic but comfortable tranquility and unmatched beauty, you've found your vacation spot.**
What makes this Cabin unique
The darkest, quietest spot we've ever found, but with the convenience of Northport, Sutton's Bay, Leeland, and Traverse City all within a 30 minute drive. Sun, 100 feet of Lake Michigan sand, incredible sunsets, a blanket of stars, the Milky Way, Northern Lights, frogs, chipmunks, squirrels, porcupines, the occasional black bear, and so many birds.

A True Remote Paradise
If your idea of a vacation getaway is remote tranquility...this is a great option. Patrick's place on the far northwest coast of Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula is quiet and beautiful solitude. A rustic cabin with all the amenities....on a sand dune overlooking the magnificence of Lake Michigan....is what you'll find. This is not about sophisticated accouterments...but rather total escape from the hustle of the day. Leisurely walks in the wild are everywhere....but dinning and shops abound in nearby Northport. If you have a dog that's part of the family....you would be hard pressed to find a better spot than this one.
Thank you, Steve.
We are always so happy when somebody really gets it. Please come back soon. We cannot wait to get back up there.
Please us know what we can do to get you to five stars next time.
We had a wonderful stay at Patrick’s property. Patrick was one of the best hosts we have ever encountered, providing tons of local recommendations and tips. The setting of the home is beautiful, and the home was overall well-equipped. My only minor suggestions would be to provide hand towels in the bathrooms, and bath towels (we could only find beach towels). Highly recommended!
Thank you for staying and for such a lovely review of our special place.
The maid is supposed to leave bath and hand towels in all bathrooms, so I don’t know what happened there. The linen closet is in the basement, but it’s our job to get them where they need to be. Sorry about that! Hopefully you’ll come back to we can do better.
Thanks a million,
Cabin in the dunes
The setting of this cabin was truly in the dunes - secluded (the natural state of the surrounding properties screened us from neighboring properties) and the porch opens literally onto the dune and was absolutely perfect. (My daughter and I enjoyed daily morning yoga on the deck - as good as the best yoga spa experience). The cabin is very well appointed and comfortable, particularly the kitchen. The lofted master bedroom with its reading nook was perfect for the occasional rainy day. Patrick was amazing, providing tips on best local places to visit in Northport and the surrounding wineries, as well as when to observe the meteor showers, northern lights, and shooting stars -and yes, the night starscape was even more amazing than the beautiful sunsets - all observable from the front porch lakeside.
The big lake is high , as we all know, and as a result we were unable to get the kayaks out to the beach, and beach access was a bit challenging, although we managed it. I would suggest creating a more permanent raised walkway over the marsh area (very beautiful in and of itself, and part of the dune ecology- we even startled a blue heron one day) between the house and the beach. That would solve the problem of challenging beach access. And speaking of beach- if you enjoy beach combing for stones, petoskies, crinoids, and other fossil stones abound!
We plan to visit again in summer of 2020! Thanks, Patrick and Julia for making this home available and for being such gracious hosts.
Best wishes, the Factor family
