A beautiful central apartment with period features sleeping 5 people
- english, french
I have been involved with letting out our holiday flat since 1998 when self-catering holiday homes were in their infancy in the city. When I was a student I would do the cleaning to earn me some pocket money, thankfully I don't have to do that anymore!
Francois purchased this Apartment in 1996
Why Francois chose New Town
My family bought this property when it was just an unloved office and my parents converted back into a residential home so it has been in our family for over 20 years and we have been operating it as a holiday/vacation let for nearly all that time.

Excellent Apartment in Wonderful Location
This is an excellent apartment that met our every need during a four day stay over The Fringe. Facilities are as described, it is walking distance from the principal attractions of the city and the local area has good restaurants, cafes and non chain shops.
Great Stay at 77 Hanover
If you want a convenient place in the heart of all happenings of New Town and Edinburgh, 77 Hanover is the spot. It comes as advertised.
In general, Hanover Street can be busy and active at night, but the location is perfect. Francois is a terrific host ... 77 Hanover rocks!
Charming spot in a lovely city
The flat is lovely, filled with charm and perfectly situated. The management is superb. There was a little, unavoidable hiccup with an appliance during our stay and the proprietor was there to help within minutes. A great experience.
Lovely property, great host who went out of his way to accommodate us early, and fabulous location close to restaurants, transportation and the Royal Mile!!! We loved Edinburgh and hope to be back soon!!!
The location of the property is excellent. The apartment has 2 smaller size bedrooms but the large living room/dining room make up for it. I would definitely recommend this property.
Location, location, location!!
We were warmly greeted by our host, Francois, who also kindly hefted two large suitcases up the stairs to the apartment on the second floor. Rooms were as pictured and well appointed. Beds comfortable and a great shower, always good!
Hanover Street where the apartment is located is right in the heart of New Town and easy walking to Princes Street and all the shops. Plenty of restaurants within a block of the apartment.
A couple of things; 1) Living room sofas were a bit soiled; 2) We were at the apartment 3 nights (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Directly next to the apartment on the ground floor is a very happening restaurant/bar. Extremely noisy on Friday and Saturday nights, until 3:00 a.m. People were smoking on the steps of the apartment and leaving their butts. Very distasteful to walk on the next morning, especially after rain, gross! Bedrooms in the back of the apartment, so less noisy there. Will remember this for next time and book at the beginning of the week:)
All in all, a good experience
The Hanover Street apartment is located in the very centre of Edinburgh's Georgian New Town and as such one is perfectly placed for visiting many of Edinburgh's attractions. Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile are a 10 minute walk away while the Scottish National Gallery and Portrait Gallery are a 2 minute walk. Edinburgh's fashionable shopping district, George Street is literally on your door step and St Andrew Square, which is where Harvey Nichols is based, is round the corner. This part of the city is crammed with excellent restaurants, bars and pubs and one is only a short walk from theatres, cinemas and concert halls. The city really can cater for all tastes.
