Our Kiawah Island beach house is in a quiet residential neighborhood behind the second security gate. It sits on a large, heavily wooded lot with a gorgeous lagoon view from almost every room. Spacious living areas with vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors and skylights make this 4200 square foot house bright, warm, and open.

Our home was designed for families or groups of friends who love going to the beach. Typical guests are girls or golfer getaways, or families treating their children and grandchildren to a very special vacation. Sometimes 2 families or a multi-generational family find the property a perfect fit. The layout is conducive to both easy living and great entertaining. The hub of activity on the first floor is a large kitchen which extends into the family room. The beautiful quartzite countertops remind you of the sandy beach which lies just minutes from the front door. In the middle of the kitchen there is a 9 ft. island with comfortable stools for those who want to chat with the cook. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans, small appliances and a variety of utensils which will allow you to fix anything from a crab boil to Thanksgiving dinner. We provide basic spices, a starter supply of detergents for dishes and laundry, glass cleaner, paper towels, toilet paper and a sponge.

The interior of the house is anchored by the Great Room, a space made light-filled and dramatic with vaulted ceilings and glass doors leading to the deck. We have a separate dining room which can make special occasions very special. The great room has a Blu-ray 65' flat screen TV and the family room has a 42' flat screen. There is also a 60" TV in the bunk room. The great room also has a game table that's perfect for tackling a big jigsaw puzzle. The house has wireless High Speed Internet access.

The first floor master suite is a private paradise. The bedroom itself is a very spacious room with a king-size bed, dresser, desk, overstuffed chair and ottoman for reading, and a smaller couch in a bay window. Sliding glass doors provide direct access to the deck where four comfortable chaises invite guests to relax and watch the activity on the lagoon out back. Just imagine the thrill of a great blue heron sweeping down to the edge of the lagoon to do a little fishing. The en-suite master bathroom has a marble floor, an extra-large shower with built-in bench seating and twin vanities set in gorgeous white pearl stone. The walk-in closet adjoining the bathroom is huge. In addition to having space for all your clothes, golf clubs and luggage, it can easily accommodate a crib. . One of the four guest bedrooms (King-size bed and full bath), a full-size laundry room, and a powder room complete the downstairs floor plan.

A wide deck overlooking the lagoon spans the entire length of the back of the house and includes built-in bench seating as well as outdoor dining furniture and a gas grill. We have recently installed a state of the art Hot Springs Spa which accommodates up to 6 people.

The second level of the house is one extra large bedroom with three twin beds and a full bath. This awesome room' has its own TV and DVD player, a comfy seating area with wrap around couch and coffee table, and lots of closet and floor space. It's ideal for parents who want young children in the room with them or for families which include siblings, cousins, assorted friends, that want to be together. Also, a great private spot to watch the game or show you want to see when someone is watching something else on the other TVs in the house.

On the third level, two bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with two twins, share a full bath. The twin room has a balcony overlooking the lagoon.

PLEASE NOTE: Major renovation completed June-2021. All new kitchen with 9 ft island, Sub zero and Wolf gas range, all new bathrooms, flooring, paint, carpet, etc. We are renting very selectively to guests who are willing to take extra care while staying at our home.

Beautifully Renovated Home-Great Layout
We loved staying in this house. It has been recently renovated, and it is gorgeous, exactly like the pictures. The layout is awesome. We are an extended family of nine with three generations, and we couldn't have found a better setup for our group. The kitchen is very well-equipped and supplied; we cooked a lot and never wanted for the right tool. There are lots of different spaces for people to hang out: A den, a living room, both with televisions. They have a card table, a large dining room table, and lots of seating at the kitchen island. They have plenty of books, games, and puzzles on hand. The host communicates clearly and frequently. It's a ten-minute walk to the beach, and we might not have found the closest access point. There is a gorgeous view of a pond from the giant deck. All in all, we would be thrilled to stay here again. I have only good things to say.

Perfect Beach House. Wonderful and Gracious Owners
Vanderhorst Plantation is the perfect beach house...clean, roomy and everything worked! We had two families staying there....4 parents and 5 adult children. There was more than enough seating in all rooms and the abundance of refrigerator space was greatly appreciated!! The owners went over and beyond in ensuring a wonderful experience!

Happy to return to this property for the second time. Wonderfully gracious space where everything is clean and everything works. The small details here really make it one of the best Kiawah properties - things like ample and matching glassware, a decent grill, a double oven, ect. Thanks to the owners for making it one of the best spots on the island.

For many years, we vacationed at Kiawah and stayed on this very street, renting from a friend of ours. It seemed like fate when we learned that this fantastic house was available for sale in 2016. When we still worked full-time in Charlotte, we opened Holly & Brooks, a boutique at nearby Freshfields Village in 2013. So, we come to Kiawah as often as possible, but are excited to share our favorite place with others!

Why they chose this property

Many rental houses on Kiawah Island are too far from the beach to walk. Not this house! One reason we fell in love at first sight is that you can walk or bike to the beach in a matter of minutes and getting there is a beautiful journey to boot.

What makes this property unique

Guests have a real sense of arrival when they walk in the front door and look through the great room to the lagoon. The house branches out from there to the left and to the right by walking down hallways with beautiful driftwood floors.
