The following is information and our desire for a harmonious and safe experience for our guests and the property:

We ask all of our guests to do their best to follow the “golden rule” of treating our place the way they would like visitors to treat their home and other than the necessary general cleaning, that they leave it as they found it. We also add a Ghandi twist of being the change they want to see in the world. This seems to open the door of kindness, accountability, trust and awareness for all involved. We also encourage all Guests to read the Guest Book when they arrive as it contains important/useful information about the property as well as many experiences from previous Guests.

Now for the specifics:

There are many crystals, stones and beautiful rocks that have been placed in the building/home/lodge as well as throughout the grounds. Please enjoy their beauty without removing them from where they have been placed. It has taken years and a lot of dedication and love to assemble this collection and we would like to continue to share their beauty with all the guests to enjoy, while they are on the property, for years to come. Unfortunately, we have had guests that did not understand this and have taken some of these items in the past. Please make sure that all who accompany you onto the property are also aware of this policy.

Regarding smoking: Smoking may be done outside and since this 10-acre quiet, secluded estate & environmentally-conscious lodge is in and surrounded by Zion National Park & located over 1 ½ miles away from the closest neighbor we request that all cigars, cigarettes etc. are extinguished in our sand filled outside containers after use.

The property is in a high fire risk wilderness area. Smoking is not permitted inside and is only permitted on outside patios and decks as long as the cigarette, cigar, pipe embers are contained and completely extinguished in the sand disposal buckets provided. No fireworks or sparklers are permitted on the property. Fires will be limited to the inside fireplace and outside Chimayo fireplace. All fires must be extinguished prior to being unattended. Guest will be responsible for any and all fire damage to the property and or surrounding areas due specifically to/directly from their negligent use of the property.

MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY – The maximum number of overnight guests is limited to 12 persons. Please do not exceed these numbers unless you have prior written approval from the Property Owner. If allowed, additional fees will apply for additional guests. Any other person on the property is the sole responsibility of Guest. No events/parties/weddings etc. or large gatherings of people other than the number of overnight guests is allowed without prior written approval from the Property Owner.

HOT TUB - No children under the age of 16 are permitted in hot tubs at any time without adult supervision. When using the hot tub, remember there is a certain health risk associated with a hot tub/ Jacuzzi. Use at your own risk. Please do not stand on the hot tub cover. Hot tub covers are for insulation purposes and are not designed to support a person or persons. They may break and the Guest would be charged for its replacement. Remember when not using the hot tub, please leave cover on so hot tub will stay warm.

STORM POLICY– Please contact Property Owner should you have any problems with your arrival. Mountain roads can be curvy, slippery and steep. Roads are maintained; however, we highly recommend four-wheel drive vehicles and/or chains during the snow months. Property Owner does not provide a refund due to road conditions or weather. Also, please be aware that the concrete patios and walkways may be slippery after storms.

PETS- Up to 2 dogs are allowed at this property as long as they are always in the care/supervision of a human. There are wonderful doggie day care facilities nearby should you wish for your pet to come home after your day of hiking as happy and exhausted as you. Guest assumes all responsibility of their pet.

WATER & SEPTIC The property is on a well and septic systems. Although there is plenty of water Guests are asked to conserve as best as possible. The septic system is very effective; however please DO NOT FLUSH anything other than toilet paper. No feminine or baby wipe products should be flushed at anytime.

Why Hank and Mariangela chose Utah

Building this place here in Zion was a fulfillment of a dream that my wife Mariangela had during her undergraduate years with a dear friend who died of AIDS a long time ago. Her dream was to design and build a place where people could come and "unplug" from the tethers of their lives and be in-touch with their "True Selves" and have an intimate experience with those they came with and Zion.

We built this place in Zion originally as a retreat center whereby guests would come to compose music, write books, design artwork, or have men’s or women’s, yoga or other types of retreats. Therefore, we designed the bedrooms to be small yet beautiful with the emphasis is on the community space. We have had guests from as small as one person, to honeymoon couples, to family reunions, corporate team building, to outdoor weddings.

As a result of being located actually inside the park, it was necessary to design and build a fairly sophisticated and comprehensive off the grid facility with tracking solar panels, automatic computerized generator back-up, well and water filtrations systems, satellite internet and TV, etc.. As a result, my wife and I live on the property to of course enjoy Zion but also to maintain those systems to be transparent to our guests. Our dwelling is separate but attached to the retreat center/vacation rental.

We of course are on the property should you have any questions, but absolutely respect our guests’ privacy.

Great Place to Stay in Zion

  • 5 of 5

If you're planning on going to Zion, this is the place to stay.

The house was awesome. It truly is a place that is 'off the grid' but has all the modern amenities. It was comfortable, had amazing views from every window, and was super close to hiking trails. We got there when it was starting to get dark and woke up in the morning to amazing views.

Hank was knowledgable about the park and gave us a bunch of suggestions about things to do and see. He was also very welcoming when we arrived, making sure we had everything we needed. You can easily drive north out of their driveway further into the park and get access to many trails, away from the crowds, within minutes. Or if you want to go to the main entrance, it's only about a 10-15 minute drive.

Lastly, do not be afraid of Zion in the winter. We were very lucky to have perfect weather, but even if the weather wasn't great, there was still plenty to do.

The Perfect Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place for us all to get together and enjoy the beautiful outdoors and our friendship. The guys had big expectations when I told them about the house, but they were still completely blown away by the house's beauty and ability to create a warm and frienship-filled space (after returning from our several adventures into Zion!). The view that we woke up to on the morning of our first day...pretty incredible. I wish I could give you guys a rating of 6!!!

Thanks again for everything, and I'd imagine I'll be in touch again in the future to plan a return trip.

Thanks you so much for creating such a wonderful space:)

Owner's Response: Dear CS, We are so glad that you and your friends’ experience here at our place in Zion met your expectations. We originally built this place as a retreat center for guests to be able to unplug from the complexity of their lives and connect with their true and unencumbered selves. In that structure, guests would come to write books, compose music, paint, sculpt and do creative photography. Now as a vacation rental we are so pleased that guests are finding their own unique and valuable use of the property and the surrounding Zion landscape. We welcome your return whenever it works for you. With kind regards, Hank and Mariangela

Great for Families

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful home over the long weeked for President's Day. We had 4 adults and 10 kids in our party. It was everything we hoped. There were several walks on the property, and the home had lovely views of the surrounding redrock. The kids especially loved all the instruments, and I doubt there was one waking minute that at least one child was not providing background music! The adults loved learning more about the home and it's sustainability. The propane stove/oven was a little tricky to work with, but after a few trials we got it down. Hank (owner) was very knowledgable about the park, and recommended, then provided directions, for several hikes that were just the right level for the kids. We would definitely visit again, and encourage anyone considering to go for it!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind and generous comments. We are so pleased that you and your family enjoyed your stay on our property in Zion. Thank you for mentioning the stove. We checked it out and found that one of the orifices was slightly clogged and we’re able to clear it. It is very special to us and we feel that it adds a certain uniqueness and warmth to the kitchen and cooking. We are also glad that you all were able to hike on many of the nearby trails in Zion and that they fit the various adventure levels of the whole group. We welcome your return whenever it feels right. With warm regards, Hank and Mariangela

Perfect Destination Wedding Location!

  • 5 of 5

After a long search for a special wedding location, we came upon this gem. We had been looking for an intimate and private setting in a beautiful location - and WOW did we find it! This place is even more gorgeous than pictures suggest!

Hank and Mariangela - the owners - are warm and wonderful people. They went out of their way to help us plan for our event and then made us feel so welcome in their fabulous estate. The place was very clean and cozy (even though it is quite large) and decorated with very interesting items from all over the world. the kitchen was well-stocked and the linens were top notch.

Our group of almost 20 treasured our experience. Some spent the night and more arrived the day of the wedding. Our wedding was inside (very cold in December!) in front of the beautiful fireplace at sunset - very romantic! So many happy memories for us - from wilderness walks and seeing a herd of deer galloping to sharing a lovely meal and dancing after the wedding. We plan to return some day and have a family reunion here!

We would highly recommend this unique place for a special and memorable event.

This gorgeous estate has a great 'vibe' and is away from the crowds of a national park.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at the Zion Estate at True North in October. We were able to enjoy a range of activities in this area with very little driving or dealing with the normal crowds of a national park. The hiking on the property is gorgeous and we found plenty of varied scenery at park trails nearby. The estate has a great 'vibe' and we spent two days just wandering the property and the adjacent landscape, sitting on the deck, walking the labrynth, and soaking up the phenomenal views. The hosts are friendly, welcoming and helpful. We look forward to going back again.

This Zion Estate is a Magical Escape

  • 5 of 5

The Zion Estate at True North is a magical escape and an inviting gathering place that has kept me coming back year after year. Hidden away in Zion National Park and surrounded by spectacular scenery, this cozy 5-bedroom lodge is comfortable and welcoming with something for everyone.

Guests may gather on one of the patios to enjoy the breathtaking views and relaxing sounds of nature and wind chimes or in the great room with an abundance of books, CDs, and musical instruments. Those that prefer serenity can always find a quiet corner, stroll along the peaceful sculpture path, or walk the meditative labyrinth.

Steps away are many trails to explore the astounding rock formations and petroglyphs, and just up the road is the Kolob Reservoir, which is the perfect spot for fishing, kayaking, or picnicking.

For an enchanting and truly memorable experience in the high desert, I recommend the Zion Estate at True North. Once you experience its charm and spirit, you too will look forward to returning year after year to this special retreat.
