Why william waldman chose Yelapa
Arlene and I experienced the time of our lives (and we've lived active ones) at Casa de Suenos at Los Chonchos Beach. We love the outdoors, serenity, solitude, nature's recreational opportunities, the sun, a big night sky, and the chorus of living things. This place is a paradise - there are very few places like it!

Exactly what we needed. Beautifully quiet. The only noise came from the ocean and the incredible bird population. Big excitement every morning was watching the whales. Hike into Chimo totally worth it. We'll go back for sure.
just what we were looking for
off the grid, beautiful location. getting there was an adventure in itself. wonderful staff. Chimo was a great day trip via foot path or kayak
Secluded Simple Sanctuary
My husband and I spent 6 days at Casa de Suenos over Christmas. We've stayed in Yelapa before, and we wanted something more remote. Los Chonchos met our 'off the grid' needs, but is still close enough to Chimo (about a 2 mile hike) for yummy lobster lunch and to get some small provisions. My husband brought his fishing pole/gear and fished everyday off the rocks in front of the palapa. He caught plenty of fish to feed us for the week and some to share with other guests at Los Chonchos. We also brought our snorkel gear and had pretty good visibility just off the main beach. What was most exciting was that every morning, as we sipped coffee, the whales started swimming by and during the day around 30 humpback whales would make their way across the bay. We had multiple days of leaping whales as well! It was truly magical.
Our advice would be to pack in most of what you want food and drinks wise (especially beer and liquor), if you do not want to have to take the boat to Yelapa during your stay to restock. The stores in Chimo stock only the basics. Also, we did find a scorpion in the palapa one evening on the wall under the windows by the front door. We quickly moved it out of the palapa and back into jungle, but it is not a bad idea to be aware of their potential presence -- shake out shoes, look around at night, etc.
Los Chonchos is a truly special community. It is an ideal place for those who can -- and want to -- live without phone or internet, enjoy the simple pleasures in life, and just connect with nature and loved ones.
Beautiful and rare
We loved our stay at the palapa. Very tranquil and rustic. Our time of year, September was very rainy, mostly at night . The jungle is dense and the small beach was lovely. If you like an adventure with no bells or whistles this could be right up your alley. We also loved the few people we met that were the helpers , including the Chef who made us a wonderful fresh fish or shrimp meal in the evening. Be prepared like you would for an outdoor adventure and bring a great book.
The palapa was amazing! Everything has been recently redone and was super clean. The views from the patio are one of a kind; we were lucky to see whales and manta rays from the hammock and enjoyed world class sunsets in the evenings. A really special place!
Garden of Eden Discovered
This place is incredible! It's just like being on an island because it is surrounded by jungle and ocean. There are no roads, stores or any other distractions - just you and nature! The people are wonderful; they are all here because they want to be . . . like-minded and unburdened. Casa de Suenos has, perhaps, the best location since it is right on the shore and at the end of the community of 24 palapas . . . so it is very private. This palapa is also cheerfully decorated and extremely well maintained. The kitchen is well-stocked, the hot water tank is ample, the indoor shower is modern and very clean, the refrigerator works great (ice in a couple of hours), the solar power supply, - though small - works perfectly and provides all the energy needed, the furniture is attractive and functional, the linens are new and clean, the stove works great (and there is even an oven), and basic supplies are provided. There are three showers! - one hot/cold indoor, one hot/cold outdoor (with an awesome view), and one cold with a foot faucet for rinsing off from the beach.
The view at Casa de Suenos is spectacular and this particular palapa is surrounded by a "yard" on all four sides - unique to this casa. Walks towards Yelapa directly from Casa de Suenos provide for a memorable stroll. The jungle in this area leaves plenty of room for hiking . . . there are amazing trees with outrageous root systems to startle your senses. Casa de Suenos has a path down to the rocks right from the deck area. There is a locked cabinet for valuables, but it really isn't needed in the community of Los Chonchos.
If you are seeking solitude and are pleased with leaving the material world behind - this is the place for you!
Los Chonchos is an eco - preserve for lounging and relaxing off-the-grid in a beautiful natural environment.with forest and mountains right behind and ocean in front . . away from cars, people, stores, and entertainment venues. We are 30 minutes by boat south of yelapa. There are no roads. access by boat only. Water taxi comes from and goes to boca de tomatlan two times a day with intermediate stop in yelapa. We bring supplies for several days from Puerto Vallarta; in village of Chimo, abt 50 minute walk from palapa there are two small groceries , two restaurants and fresh seafood . There is snorkeling right off the main beach (Los Chonchos Bay). The adjacent jungle has abundant hiking trails. Kayaking and fishing are terrific in the Los Chonchos Bay and surrounding seaside. The large beach (also belonging to the Los Chonchos community) is a short walk (perhaps a quarter of a mile or so) on the path towards Chimo. This beach is wide, long and has a soft sand (no rocks) all the way into the shallow water.
A good half day excursion might consist of a walk into Chimo. A trip into the relatively bustling tourist town of Yelapa would need to be planned for a full day (due to water taxi schedule).
Casa de Suenos does not provide any snorkeling or fishing gear. These items might be borrowed from some of the local residents but we recommend that you bring your own. There are “community” kayaks available for guests – . Life vests are available for use by the guests. We have a couple of fold-up chairs and an umbrella that you may take with you to either of the beaches.
The water is usually plenty warm for brief swims but if you plan to snorkel for an extended period in the winter months it might be wise to have a wet suit – at least a “shorty”.
Make sure to bring games, books, and writing material . . . the environment will inspire you to collect and record your thoughts.
There are potential (depending on how the waves have shaped the beach in the preceding hours or days) spots at the west and east ends of the large beach with tide pools. These hideaways provides an incomparable environment for meditation and contemplation.
We encourage you to call or write for any more detailes information.
