About Janice Sach
We are a retired couple from Essex who love our house and hope you will too.
Janice Sach purchased this Villa in 2002
Why Janice Sach chose Paraza
We had been looking for some time for a house in this part of France as we have always loved it here. Although a short walk from the canal and restaurant and shop the house is very quiet and private.
What makes this Villa unique
We love being so close to the Canal du Midi so we can cycle or walk along its banks. The hills just to the North are wonderful to visit too as are the many local markets.

Fantastic property, great location
The villa is a lot bigger and nicer than it looks in the photos. The pool is big and safe and was kept very clean during our stay. Deck chairs were the best I've had, very comfortable. We used some of the bikes from the house (thank you) and hired others - i would definitely recommend biking, although sometimes it's easier to use the roads than the canal paths! Weather was lovely and hot but the house stayed cool and there are also fans in the bedrooms which were a blessing. The house is very well equipped, and was very clean when we arrived. The tennis court behind the house is free and in good condition, and was available every morning when we went around. There are lots of nice restaurants in nearby villages which are a very short drive or a slightly longer bike ride. The fripperie/ vintage clothing shop in the village was a late but interesting discovery. Nice markets nearby in easy reach, and fresh bread available at the village shop each day (an easy walk or cycle). I would highly recommend this property, which is also an easy drive from Carcassonne airport.
Thanks for taking the time to post a review Amanda and we are so glad you enjoyed the house and area as much as we do.
Home from home
As usual we had a great time at this house. It has everything you need and a lovely big pool. Handy wee shop for bread every morning and for bits and pieces you might need. Wine tasting just 100 yards from your door .
If you are looking a quiet peaceful holiday just to recharge your batteries this is the place for you.
Thanks again Janice and Peter for lending us your house
Thank you for the lovely comments Heather & for being such nice guests. See you again next year
Great property with lots of space in a lovely area
It's not easy finding a holiday house that suits 3 generations but this was great for us. The house is well equipped, including toys, bikes, beach and pool equipment, Great and has loads of space - inside and out. We made good use of the pool and very welcome, shaded deck area which also has a large table with bench seats where we enjoyed eating. The separate bedroom with ensuite bathroom enabled grandparents to 'escape' and have some privacy.
The village is VERY quiet but charming. It has a good shop and we enjoyed some very pleasant strolls round - the local wine is very worth sampling too! There is a small, pleasant park area at the rear of the property with a children's play area, tennis court, etc which was great when our daughter needed some energy burning off on quiet days at home.
The area is beautiful with many interesting places to visit. We particularly enjoyed Fontfroide Abbey and Minerve and trips to the coast for some lovely beaches (and seafood). A car is necessary to get around.
Jan is very helpful and responded very promptly to all queries and provided us with lots of information and tips.
lovely property in a lovely location
This is a lovely property in a nice quiet village on the banks of canal du midi. The house is nice and clean and has everything you need and more. There is a handy small shop on the banks of the canal ,great for bread in the morning and you can order a pizza if you want, there is also a pizza van on tues nights and a snack van on thurs night [great if you don't want to cook but also don't want to get dressed up for a restaurant]. The restaurants in the villages on both sides of paraza are very nice[don't know about one in the village as we went one tues night and it wasn't open]
Plenty to do in this area and plenty to see but as it was sooooo hot when we were there we didn't do a lot as it was hard to drag yourself away from the fantastic pool, don't know what we would have done without it .If you have children there is a lovely big secure garden .
We don't usually go to the same place twice but hope to go back again for the third time
A lovely spacious property with a great pool.
A lovely spacious property with a great pool situated in a wonderful part of the Languedoc. The property was clean and well equipped and conviently situated in the pretty village of Paraza. Some great local restaurants and plenty of walking and cycling along the canal du midi. Highly recommended.
Peaceful location with excellent facilities.
Beautiful, peaceful location within easy reach of supermarkets & Carcassonne & other interesting towns. House extremely well equipped & maintained. Excellent pool. Good boulangerie, restaurant, bike hire shop short walk away on canal du midi. Excellent wifi which was an essential for my teenage kids. All enjoyed the holiday & I would recommend it to anyone I know who wants to travel to the south of France with kids of any age.
Paraza is a small village on the UNESCO protected Canal du Midi in SW France. It is just 45 minutes from Carcassonne & Bezier airport, and one hour from Perpignan,Montpellier & Toulouse. The nearest international airport is Barcelona two hours south. The area is famous for its historic chateaus and Cathar castles, the most famous being the walled city of Carcassonne which is an absolute must-see. There are many fine, sandy beaches close by, Narbonne-Plage & Gruissan being the closest at 30 minutes. To the north you will find the Orb valley where you can swim or go on fully organised canoe trips, not to be missed! The village itself has a restaurant, right on the banks of the canal, small shop that has all essentials with daily bread as well as a small cafe area for a beer glass of wine & snack. There is a tennis court & play area with boules. Several days a week vendors call in the square next to the shop selling fish, fruit and vegetables. There are many daily markets in the neighbouring villages, a full list at the villa. The city of Narbonne with its cathedral has plenty of shops, hypermarket & food hall as well as cinema, theatre and excellent swimming pool with slides etc.
Other Activities: Boat hire on Canal du Midi, cycling with hire in the village, golf at Carcassonne and horse riding in Lezignan.
