This enchanting Shawangunk Mountain house -- a ''home sweet home'' -- sits on a forested mountain side in the cliff-side bohemian community of Cragsmoor, NY. It's just a half mile walk to Sams Point Preserve, entrance to the south end of the Gunks (see last three photos) and a short walk to the post office and library where you can participate in a farm cooperative, getting weekly boxes of veggies and eggs. Hannaford Grocery and pharmacy, wine and liquor, farmers markets, hospital and a really good Physical Therapist are just a 10 minute drive.
The home is a perfect place to work in the quiet countryside with breaks to watch the leaves turn, the snow fall or see your garden grow. Take a walk to Sam's Point where you can enjoy incredible views, pick blueberries, snow shoe or run trails (see last three photos.) The Cragsmoor community consists of artists, Broadway show runners, film makers and awesome cooks!!! In the nearby town of Ellenville, there is a growing restaurant scene plus the Shadowland Stages composed of a main stage and studio space. Hang-gliders, rock climbers and hikers are also part of the community since the ridge has some of the best hang-gliding and rock climbing on the east coast.
Losee Cottage is a mid-19th century home that was completely restored in 2007. There are 4 bedrooms on the second floor with a full bath. A second bath with shower is located on the first floor. The four bedrooms include: Two master bedrooms, one with a queen and one with twin beds. The twin master has two walls of bookcases and could serve as a large office. The two smaller bedrooms include a twin bedroom and a full size bed (good for guests and naps.)
On the first floor, wraparound windows bring the outside inside (except for the weather!) There is a lovely 900 square foot living/dining room (extendable dining table seats up to 10 and includes 10 straight-back chairs) with a working fireplace ready for you to cook marshmallows or warm yourself after a good fall walk at Sam's Point. Both sofas turn into beds just in case you want to nap in front of the fire or TV area. Radiant floor and baseboard heat are provided on the first floor with two heating zones. (The second floor has radiant heat in the bath and hallway and is on one zone. The master bedrooms have baseboard heat and are on their own separate zone while the smaller bedrooms, also have baseboard heat, are on their own separate zone.
There is a generous deck and front porch on which to sit and have morning coffee or a glass of wine at the end of the day. A glassed and screened-in summer dining area with dining table for 10 (not heated except by wood stove) is off the kitchen and living room. Artists have used this room as a year-round studio.
The galley kitchen is well-equipped and has an ample prep area. A Weber Genesis gas and Weber charcoal grill are provided for cooking "en plein air". With the large outdoor deck and summer dining porch, the house is a great place to both work and entertain inside or out. In the colder months, enjoy cooking and chatting while standing on that warm, radiant heated floor or entertain family and friends in the main dining/living room - or keep your toes warm while working at the table.
Parking is in the driveway area in front of the garage (sorry the garage is not available)
