Simply overwhelming!

  • 5 of 5

From the welcome basket in the landing to the breathtaking views in all directions we were simply overwhelmed with this destination. We enjoyed the hot tub and playing billiards well into the evening. A glass of wine on the balcony in the evening and a cup of coffee in that same space the next morning. I can't give a strong enough recommendation to this home. We are telling our friends and family to experience it for themselves and plan on coming back next year!

Amazing views beyond all others

  • 4 of 5

First and foremost, I highly recommend staying here. The drive, while long, from the base of the mountain is such a beautiful drive. We saw wildlife from day one (deer, turkeys, groundhogs). It is a steep drive (our initial worry) - but the road is fully paved all the way up and wide enough - just drive slow. Now, when at the top of the mountain, you can appreciate the true meaning of the word quiet (amazing). And the night sky - fantastic. And the temperature difference from the valley to the mountain - 20 degrees cooler - ahhh. And can I tell you, the master shower is a room with a view - so amazing to see for 90 miles while scrubbing off the daily hike. The good: view, air conditioning system, bar, pool table, deck, hammock chairs, lower deck, hot tub, shower. Now, some minor criticism. The upper patio outside the top bedroom is not in great condition but is very usable. We were lead to believe through the listing that there are three queen beds when in fact there are two queens and a single bed - but we had 5 people, so it worked out. The light switches and air conditioning switches didn't have instructions, so we fumbled a bit at first. Also, the TVs have Netflix but not a lot of channel choices. Lastly, while the contract did state 45 days for security deposit return, and we agreed to it, it seemed a bit long considering the amount held. Back to the good - we stayed up late into the night on the lower deck talking as a family and enjoyed a few days down in Pigeon Forge. We will remember this vacation for years to come. Overall, we would visit again as it was incredibly enjoyable!

Amazing. You won't want to leave.

We had the pleasure of staying here for 8 days over the Labor Day holiday. The view is breathtaking. We could see the labor day fireworks in Knoxville (40 miles away)! The house combines high end amenities with comfort. No other house in sight, so it is very private. If you are lucky you'll get a visit by a local bear. Have the camera ready. Bob and Debra are very helpful. They responded immediately to a few minor maintenance issues we encountered. Next time we stay here we will spend less time exploring the mountains and more time at the house!

Totally not worth it

  • 1 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this property in April, and it fell far, far short of our expectations, especially considering the price. The property was not very well maintained inside or out - we had several plumbing problems (master shower leaked extensively into the bathroom below it, at least two sinks would not drain). I'm not quite sure how a 'live-in' owner could have missed these issues. The pictures on the site are also old - the outdoor decks and patios have not been treated kindly by the weather. The VRBO listing has since been updated to reflect 'seasonally available' big ticket items, but at the time we booked we were led to believe there was a fully functioning hot tub, sauna, and gas grill. The sauna only turned on once for us and then stopped functioning, the hot tub was slimy and wouldn't go above ~80 degrees, and the gas grill turned out to be charcoal (with no coals available and a long trip back to town to get some). When we brought up the grill situation to the owner, he suggested that we go out and buy him a gas grill and put it together, and that he would reimburse us for the grill. I'm not sure about you, but someone else's chores are the last thing I would think about doing on my vacation, especially when I'm paying for the privilege. It's hard to believe that this is billed as a 'bucket list' property and receives so many good reviews. I'm sure the owner will have lots of say in response to this (we've already heard every excuse in the world about the conditions we encountered) but I've vowed to myself not to read anything else from him - every dealing we had made my blood pressure go up further and further and my head almost explode. The only good things I can say are: the property was as secluded as a person could ask for, and the views were really lovely. I wouldn't recommend this property to anyone.

Owner's Response: What Makes the World Go 'Round? Have you realized that there are some people you can't please? No matter what you do or what you try or how nice you are to them. You just can't please everybody. Every year at TOTW Spring opens up to the beginning of a new year. TOTW supports many changes, some based on previous occupants requests, and others based on standard maintenance, and upkeep preservation. Initially this rental request was denied, based on timing. A telephone conversation took place between the parties. The renter insisted on renting and to bring a pet. The prospective renter was completely and totally apprised of the ongoing construction and preservation. The renter sounded sincere and verbalized... a vacation was really needed! In an effort to accommodate the renter, all maintenance and considering the circumstances, a special price was arranged for the stay, including no charge for the pet! Quite simply; the numerous excellent reviews and quality stays, plus TOTW's 100% cleanliness rating from the TN Department of Health speaks for itself! There are many categories of people from all walks of life. They all choose a path... The vast majority of individuals, couples and families are fantastic! Notwithstanding, a flip of the coin will also turn up others who are threating, disrespectful, and fabricators. “In Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). Glory to God for All Things

On Top of Our LIst

I could go on and on using many words to describe this property, but I will simply say it will exceed anything you can imagine. The views, the atmosphere, and the tranquility. Close to tourist activities yet feels like its your own home. Every question I had was received with a quick response by the owner. The process was easy and will come back again and again.

You can touch the hand of God here!

Great place to stay! We loved the property. The kitchen was stocked with pots and pans and spices, too. Some things we didn't even expect like the wine coolers. Very nice home. Get groceries before you come up because you won't want to go back down. It takes 25 minutes to go 3 miles. Very windy road! If you are driving and are afraid of windy roads and heights, get a different driver but still go. In almost every room of the house there is a place to enjoy. The decks and views are spectacular! We bonded and enjoyed every moment together as a family. We barbecued every night and watched the sunsets. The hot tub view was awesome and each day we played pool. Bring Cutter insecticide and flashlights in case you lose electricity. We did but didn't end up using the flashlights. Awesome home! Thank you, Dr. Bob!
