Authentic Cabin, 2 Bedrooms & Loft, Gorgeous Bathroom, Sleeps 5
We are very fortunate to be the conservators of a waterfront home perched high on the cliffs of the Bay which our parents acquired in 1949. Our parents loved this magical place. We have extended their legacy by constantly maintaining and upgrading the comfortable log cabin. While the 1947 log cabin is original and authentic, it is warmed by oil heat, cooled by central air, and filled with modern tech conveniences. Since 2009 when we opened our doors to guests, visitors have enjoyed vacations and shared their stories of relaxing experiences at the cabin, on the beach, in the forested community. We look forward to providing a happy home for your family's next vacation.

1939 log cabin nostalgia but with modern conveniences
This is a vintage knotty pine log cabin with cathedral ceiling in the main room located on a promontory in southern Maryland known as Scientists Cliffs which has been loved by the same family for 80 years. Its expansive view of the Chesapeake Bay is unparalleled and, thus, the early morning sunrises are, too (my husband who never wakes up for sunrises did so - twice in fact !!) There is much nostalgia here with its décor collected over years of family travels. The brand new, updated bath is bright and a wonderful addition--a room where nostalgia is not necessarily a good thing!! Furniture is very comfortable with areas furnished with tables and chairs on which to read, write, play games , have meals in the sunroom with its beautiful views. It's a wonderful place to disconnect (although Wi-Fi exists) and enjoy life as it once was. There is a certain romance here for simpler times lost or forgotten and a reconnection in families. The guest book comments will attest to this. Owner Ginny was very responsive to all my questions; wish we had had the opportunity to meet in person and to hear stories of "Stone's Throw" over cups of coffee or wine but time and distance from the property prevented this. Staying in a log cabin (more home) in this unique neighborhood founded by scientists with shared interests is a wonderfully unique experience that I wouldn't think twice about repeating.
We were there in fall but summer must be a very nice time to rent and enjoy what the community has to offer with its activities, swimming pool, tennis courts and beach. There are trails and hidden steps to the beach to explore, and go fossil hunting . Treat yourself to this experience; you'll be glad you did. P.S. This cabin sits on a 100-ft cliff; no small children allowed.
Thanks so much E. for your kind and delightfully written review. We loved having you and J.! Concerning your P.S., we do suggest that parents supervise young children in the front yard; children are welcome... and my husband and his siblings, and our own kids have played here and all actually survived!
A view we will never forget
Stepping back in time with all the modern conveniences. Ginny was great to work with, especially when we had one small glitch upon arrival day. The house and all it offers are fantastic. You can just come and make yourself to home. The only thing that surprised us was the fact you have to bring your own sheets, or pay for linen service. This appears to be an East Coast thing as we have never encountered this before in all of our VRBO rentals. It does show this when you book your stay, just came as a surprise to us. None the less, it is a BEAUTIFUL area and cabin to stay in, with plenty of things to do and see in a short drive. Ginny is great at answering questions or giving suggestions for places to eat. Cannot go wrong here, we hope to come back one day.
Better every year...
I would come back (and do) every year anyway but the owner's are always upgrading here and there. This year was a big upgrade to the bathroom (totally redone and modern). I do love that the place retains the log cabin feel overall.... just with all the creature comforts you could want. Of course there is the stunning view of the bay. Super short drive to the main beach (and everyone there is super friendly). Short drive to all the modern conveniences of a major town (but when you are back at the cabin the world feels worlds away). Eat out at some great restaurants or take advantage of the fully equipped kitchen.
Better than described
Overall, the location and quaint atmosphere of this property make it even better in person than described. We would definitely return and enjoyed every moment.
We loved everything about it, and would strongly consider coming back!
Perfect Relaxing Retreat!
After a grueling year of internship, a compete unplug was what I needed! Stones Throw allows the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the bay (view was breathtaking) meander private beaches, walk through trails and experience history....or stay in the quaint cabin with all the modern amenities and reconnect. I highly recommend this small cabin with big personality.
Home located in private country-club like 300-acre private community founded in 1936 for the preservation of nature and fossils. Seasonal activities revolve around 2 mile sand beach on Chesapeake Bay, with excellent beachcombing, shark's tooth hunting, swimming and boating. Two tennis courts, pristeen outdoor swimming pool, ball fields, a community house, basketball & horseshoe court and private roads for walking and cycling make this an ideal vacation spot. Lush vegetation, a tall canopy of trees and rolling hills form the backdrop for this beach community perched on cliffs overlooking the Bay. Maryland crabs, seafood, fine museums and parks, wineries, golf and charter fishing are available within easy driving distance.
