We ex-Spectre you'll love your Solden vacation rental
When a ski resort counts James Bond among its fans, you know it must be doing something right. A whole section of 2015's Spectre was filmed in Solden, and if you want to follow in Daniel Craig's footsteps (without the explosions and gunfire) then a Solden vacation rental is your chance. With long runs and an awesomely advanced lift network, the skiing round here is so good that Solden regularly hosts events for the FIS Ski World Cup. Off the slopes, there's shopping galore, while a massive nightlife scene caters to a lively apres-ski crowd.
Get to grips with a prehistoric murder mystery
Bond's adversaries aren't the only ones to have perished in the nearby mountains. Around 5,300 years ago, a local man was shot dead with a flint arrow, and the Schnalstal glacier preserved his remains until he was found in 1991. Known as Otzi the Iceman, he's the oldest natural mummy in Europe, and you can learn all about him at the Otzi Village in nearby Umhausen. And if you fancy soaking away the aches of the ski slopes before you head back to your Solden vacation rental, Solden's Aqua Dome is an open-air thermal spa for the grown-ups, with a little water park for the kids.
Go on, see if you can break the sound barrier
If your idea of fun is strapping planks to your feet and blasting down a snowy mountainside at hair-raising speeds, you've come to the right place with a Solden vacation rental. The high peaks and glaciers make for exceptionally long runs, and with more than 30 lifts carrying thousands of people an hour, there's precious little waiting around. If you're less about pure speed and more about getting away from it all, a Solden vacation rental offers some classic ski touring routes, while freestylers and snowboarders might want to head for the AREA 47 snowpark.
Concerned about the state of the slopes? Snow worries!
What you're really wanting to know is how much of the white stuff there is, and when it falls. Well, the news is good. The combination of glaciers and high altitude means that the slopes are usually open between October and May. And if the snow isn't as punctual as you'd like it to be, never fear—they'll make some for you, since almost 80% of the slopes are covered by snow-making machines. Come summer, this part of the Tyrol can see some glorious sunny conditions, though the mountainous terrain means that weather can be changeable.
It's Otztally beautiful up here in the Alps
Solden isn't half easy on the eyes. Set in the mountainous Austrian Tyrol region, it's nestled in the pretty Otztal Valley, which separates the Otztal Alps and the Stubai Alps. It's an area of lofty peaks and glaciers, and uniquely, the resort features 3 mountains over 3,000 meters, which it markets as "The Big 3". A visit to the viewing platforms should definitely be on your list, even if you're not planning on skiing down them afterwards. High up at the end of the valley is the Italian border, and in summer you can drive or even cycle across it via the Timmelsjoch Pass.
