A rustic realm close to Los Angeles
Santa Clarita is just 35 miles north of LA but its rolling hills, peppered with jagged rock formations, seem a world away. Sandwiched between the Angeles National Forest San Gabriel Mountains National Monument to the southeast and Los Padres National Forest to the northwest, Santa Clarita’s rocky landscapes have starred in many Hollywood movies and TV shows. The town is jam-packed with family-friendly activities, restaurants, and shopping, while also offering a great jumping-off point to explore this stunning and distinctive natural environment.
Fun times in Santa Clarita
You’ll only be a little over an hour away from Disneyland Florida, Anaheim when you stay at a Santa Clarita vacation rental, but why travel that far when Santa Clarita has theme parks of its own? Six Flags Magic Mountain has towering rollercoasters and family attractions, including the cast of Loony Tunes. The neighboring Six Flags Hurricane Harbor waterpark has all the usual rides, slides, lazy river, and wave pool needed for a splashing day out. Or dial it back at bit at the Mountasia Family Fun Center, which has classic favorites like bumper boats, miniature golf, and old school gaming machines.
Go outdoors in Santa Clarita
You don’t have to go far from your Santa Clarita vacation rental to discover miles of hiking and biking trails to explore. Twenty minutes east, the distinctive sandstone rock formations of Vasquez Rocks jut stubbornly from the hillside – great for rock climbing – and creating a scenic backdrop to the hiking and equestrian trails around this Los Angeles County Park. Head back to town for post-hike dining and entertainment. On Thursday nights, the historic Main Street of Santa Clarita’s Old Town Newhall comes alive with block party celebrations and live entertainment.
Santa Clarita through the seasons
Santa Clarita enjoys plenty of sunshine, warm summer temperatures, and mild winters. You can make the most of the hiking, climbing, and other outdoor sports on offer throughout the year from a Santa Clarita vacation rental. You’ll also find plenty of seasonal events running through the year and, every September, Santa Clarita’s historic Hart Park hosts the Hart of the West Pow Wow – drawing visitors and tribal members from all over the USA to the city to celebrate dancing, drumming, and Native American arts.
Santa Clarita’s canyons and mountains
The Placerita Canyon Nature Center, on the southern edge of town, is well worth exploring for its shaded oak groves, chaparral, picnic areas, trails, and seasonal waterfall. In summer, Castaic Lake State Park, about a half-hour’s drive north of Santa Clarita, offers plenty of opportunities to cool off or get back to nature. The 9,000-acre park has many miles of hiking and biking trails. The reservoir’s upper lake is popular for bass fishing, and the lower lake has a lagoon and swim beach. Visitors can enjoy boating, jet skiing, paddle boarding, and moonlight fishing and kayaking events on its calm blue waters.
