This low-elevation town has a super-high cute factor
It takes a village to create such a charming ski resort and farming area. This peaceful town is a breath of fresh air in the Alps near the Swiss border. There are slopes for all levels of skiiers, and the low-elevation town also hosts paragliding competitions in the summer. There's a central town square with shops, restaurants, and a street market that sells local produce. And despite its peacefulness, there are still some lively bars you can hit up for a fun night out before you head back to your cozy La Clusaz vacation rental for a good night's sleep.
Where's the fairest castle of all? Find out when you visit La Clusaz
See the picturesque palace that inspired Walk Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle. Menthon Castle, 12 miles to the west, overlooks the lovely Lac d'Annecy. Speaking of lakes, Combloux Ecological Mountain Lake is a cool visit, literally. This manmade wonder uses aquatic plants to keep the chilly water crystal clear, and the mountain views of Mont Blanc Massif alone make the 18-mile trip completely worth it. Right in La Clusaz, you can snowshoe, snowboard, or ski on the gentle slopes of Plateau de Beauregard. Or head to Aquatic Area Des Aravis, a sprawling outdoor pool with water slides.
Small village charm with big-time skiing and lots of farms
Sure, it's a ski resort, but skiing is just one of a hundred activities you can do with La Clusaz vacation rentals. Some of these include horsebackriding, rock-climbing, paragliding and hiking. Pamper yourself in one of the spas, sample the local produce at the markets and restaurants, or eat some cheese that came from one of the area's cows. The kiddos will love the holiday spectacles in the winter that feature magicians, puppeteers, singers, musicians, artists and dancers. There're also some world-class biking routes—just ask the Tour de France, which often passes through La Clusaz in July.
If the air gets any fresher, it'll need a time out
Sing in the rain you may with La Clusaz vacation rentals. The temperate climate brings beaucoup de rain, which peaks in the early summer months of May and June. August has highs in the lower 70s, which is about as hot as it gets, while the coldest months of January and December fall to the 30s. And of course, you'll see snow in the winter months, especially at higher elevations. The area is most popular in the winter time, when flocks of skiiers hit the slopes, although the mild summers are perfect for outdoor sports, too.
This adorable alpine paradise feels like a fairy tale
The hills are alive, and you'll be singing like Maria when you see them. The adorable chalets and alpine-style buildings rest in a valley surrounded by snow-capped peaks, creating a picture-perfect setting for your La Clusaz vacation rental. The town is part of the Aravis skiing area, where the low-elevation mountains range from 3,000 to 8,500 feet. It's also a farming village, so there are grazing cows and horses hanging out in endless green pastures. Lac d'Annecy, about 15 miles to the west, is a sprawling lake, where you're sure to see some wildlife on a nature walk.
