The remote city of Rueil-Malmaison awaits you
Come and experience Rueil-Malmaison and its churches, monuments and history. This city's gardens, theaters and coffeehouses draw many visitors. Arc de Triomphe and Eiffel Tower are just a couple of the must-sees in the area. If you need more space to accommodate a family vacation or friends trip, rental homes often come with separate dining areas and spacious living rooms.
See some 19th-century grandeur in Rueil-Malmaison
Rueil-Malmaison feels like the 19th-century minus the corsets, wigs, and tricorne hats. The incredibly grand Chateau de Malmaison was bought by Empress Josephine in 1799, and was Napoleon's last home before he was exiled in 1815. The chateau, with its lavish rooms and ornate gardens, is now one of the area's most popular attractions. In 1807, Josephine built the Greco-Roman style Love Temple to decorate the gardens of Malmaison. Josephine died in 1814 and is buried at the Church of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul, along with her daughter, Hortense.
Rueil-Malmaison—it leaves quite an impression
It would be a shame to come to Rueil-Malmaison and not visit the chateau from which it takes its name. Another site that's worth a look is the tomb of Empress Josephine in the historic Church of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul. Close to the church, foodies can get their fill in the many fine brasseries, cafes, and bars. There's also the Park of Impressionists, a public garden inspired by the paintings of the great French Impressionists who frequented the area. What's more, Rueil-Malmaison is a short distance from such world-famous sites as the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe.
Soaking up Rueil-Malmaison's summer splendor
Rueil-Malmaison has an oceanic climate, which means it experiences mild conditions for most of the year. The weather in spring and autumn is variable, with warm and cold spells bringing unseasonable conditions. Winters tend to be cool and damp with daytime highs in the mid-40s in December and January. In summer, Rueil-Malmaison is pleasantly warm, with daily highs in the upper 70s. With warm temperatures and dry conditions, July and August are 2 of the best months to book Nanterre vacation rentals.
Giving Josephine her due in Malmaison Forest
If you fancy a tranquil walk in a lush forest while in Rueil-Malmaison, then you have the Empress Josephine to thank. The 500 acres that make up Malmaison Forest were acquired by Josephine in 1800 and linked up to the Chateau de Malmaison. Like Josephine, you're sure to enjoy long walks among the the trees. And the lake of Saint-Cucufa makes for the perfect spot to relax, have a picnic, and watch the local birdlife wander past.
