A resort town for sun worshippers and history lovers alike
This popular summer resort is nestled on the coast of western Croatia's Istrian Peninsula. In and around Porec, you'll find an historic old town, with structures that date back to the 6th century, as well as gorgeous coastlines made for exploring. There are plenty of activities for the whole family, from your most adventurous kid to your biggest history buff. Book a Porec vacation rental by the coast or set up in the hills for a sprawling view of this stunning peninsula, and quickly learn why it's a repeat destination for so many.
From gem-stoned mosaics to jewel-toned marine life
History buffs should make it their mission to visit the Euphrasian Basilica complex, which dates back to the 6th-century and is famous for its Byzantine-era mosaics, studded with gemstones. Art lovers will adore the Dusan Dzamonja Sculpture Park, or a stroll through the galleries tucked along the Roman Decumanus pedestrian street. Treat the kids to a day at the Porec Aquarium, the Aquacolors Porec waterpark, or the Dinopark Funtana theme park. Cap each day with a stroll past the waterfront cafes and restaurants that line the quayside Marsala Tita, before resting your head at your Porec vacation rental.
If all else fails, head for the hills. Literally.
The heart of Porec can be found around its dazzling marina, where yachts dock among the fishing boats, and locals and visitors camp out at cafe tables with a view. The surrounding coastlines are popular among campers, so consider a night away from your Porec vacation rental to reconnect with nature. Spend time in the Old Town, where you'll find well-preserved Roman ruins, spas, and cafes, or visit the beaches, packed with sunbathers and water sport lovers. If you prefer to be more active, head inland where you can spend your days hiking, cycling, and bird-watching.
Dazzling summers, stunning springs, fabulous falls
June through September is most definitely Porec's time to shine, thanks to dazzling weather and a town that comes alive with peak season. May and October are also worth your consideration, when the weather is still warm and the sea is still inviting, but the crowds are smaller and the prices are lower. Istria quiets down entirely from November through April, when many of the local hotels close for the off-season. A true peak at local life is available on a budget, but consider that a visit to some of the top attractions may not be possible.
From sandy coasts to crystal clear waters
Porec's central location on the Istrian peninsula makes this seaside village an ideal spot for exploring the rest of the region. Most people, however, will stay close to town, as the main reason to visit Porec is for its local beaches. The sandy coasts and clear waters of Spadici, Lanterna, and Brulo Beaches are not to be missed, and are nestled among the rocky coastline Croatia is most known for. Further inland from Porca, you'll find the Baredine Cave, which is most notable for its stalactite formations.
