The site is the 2nd largest of its kind in Hawaii and consists of 6 heiaus, native Hawaiian temples, the largest of which is Ili'ili'opae. Featuring 4 tiers that rise to form a striking plateau, it is 287 feet tall and is still considered a sacred site. According to local legend, it was built during a single night using boulders that were passed from person-to-person from the Wailau Valley, on the island's north shore.
