If you can tear yourself away from the slopes, there's plenty to do at your Alta vacation rental. Take some time to explore the historic downtown of nearby Sundance (make sure to stop by the Utah Olympic Park museum while you're there). For a culture fix, head to downtown Salt Lake City, where there's a little something for everyone. Your first stop should be Temple Square, with the city's postcard-perfect Mormon temple, but be sure to save time for the rest of the sights, like the beautiful state capitol building, the Hogle Zoo, and the Utah Museum of Fine Arts.

Alta is all about the skiing, whether you prefer downhill or cross-country. Though there's no snowboarding in Alta, you can find that at Snowbird Ski Area right next door. If you're a non-skier, fear not - there are plenty of other things to do. At nearby Utah Olympic Park, you'll find summer ziplining, hiking, and ropes courses, as well as year round bobsled rides (medals not included). Trade in the snow for the water at the Great Salt Lake, where you can swim, sail, and boat to your heart's content, and catch some killer sunsets to boot.
Alta's microclimate: let it snow, let is snow, let it snow
Given its claim to fame as a top-notch ski destination, you won't be surprised to find plenty of the fluffy white stuff at your Alta vacation rental. And by plenty, we mean plenty -- over 500 inches a year, to be exact. Low temps start to dip below freezing as early as October and can stay there as late as May (bring your coziest sweater for that apres ski). High altitudes mean cool summers. You'll see highs in the 60s from June to September, peaking in the low 70s in July and August.
There's nothing little about Little Cottonwood Canyon
The air is sure to be crisp and clean at your Alta vacation rental. Set at an impressive 8,950 feet above sea level in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Alta is one of the highest cities in Utah, and even in the country. The scenery from the peaks can't be beat, with idyllic forests and lakes gracing the slopes, along with several rare plant species and even the occasional moose. Vibrant fields of wildflowers blanket the area in the warmer months, so be sure to bring your camera for that perfect Instagram shot.
How to get to and around Alta
The nearest airport is in Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), located 22.6 mi (36.3 km) from the city center. If you can't find a flight that's convenient for your trip, you could book a flight to Provo, UT (PVU), which is 25.9 mi (41.7 km) away.
